No two people carry the same story

Some people come to therapy after one event changed everything. Others arrive because something has been quietly wearing them down for years and they finally have the words for it. Either way, the work starts the same place: with you telling it your way, at whatever speed feels workable.

I have spent eleven years helping people make sense of what happened to them and what to do next. My job is not to hand you a script. It is to help you understand the events causing you distress clearly enough that they stop running the show.

Some things resolve in a handful of sessions. Others take longer. We will figure out which this is together, and we will adjust the plan as we go rather than locking you into a timeline that was never yours.

What I work with

Primary focus areas

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Dual diagnosis, where mental health and substance use overlap

I also work with

Addiction and recovery, alcohol and drug use, anger management, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression and mood disorders, marital and premarital concerns, men's issues, relationship difficulties, self esteem, and questions of spirituality and meaning.

How I work

I draw from several evidence based approaches rather than forcing every client through the same protocol. Which methods we use depends on what you are dealing with and what actually helps you.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps the brain process traumatic memories that stayed stuck in their original raw form. Effective when talking through an event has not been enough to change how it lands in your body.

Trauma Focused Therapy

Structured work aimed directly at the impact of traumatic experience, including how it shapes your beliefs about yourself and your safety in the world.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identifying the thought patterns driving anxiety, low mood, and avoidance, then testing whether those patterns hold up.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Concrete skills for regulating intense emotion, tolerating distress, and staying steady in relationships that tend to escalate.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)

A structured program used widely in addiction and justice involved treatment, built around moral reasoning and decision making rather than willpower alone.

Motivational Interviewing

For the stretch where part of you wants to change and part of you does not. We work with the ambivalence instead of arguing with it.

Also incorporated: mindfulness based approaches, existential and humanistic work, family and marital therapy, and culturally responsive practice.

The hardest session is the one you have not scheduled yet. Call to talk it through, ask what you need to ask, and decide from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you see clients in person?
No. This practice is fully telehealth. Sessions are conducted online, which means you can be located anywhere in California and still work with me.
Do you take my insurance?
I am in network with Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Concern, Magellan, Military OneSource, Optum, Sutter, TRICARE, TriWest, and UnitedHealthcare. Kaiser members can often use out of network benefits. Call at (707) 475-3203 and I will help you check.
What is dual diagnosis treatment?
Dual diagnosis means addressing a mental health condition and a substance use issue at the same time rather than treating them as separate problems. Anxiety, trauma, and depression frequently sit underneath substance use, and treating only one side tends to leave the other in place.
How long will therapy take?
It depends on what brought you in. Some concerns resolve in a short course of focused work. Trauma histories and long standing patterns generally take longer. We set direction at the first session and revisit it as things change.
Does EMDR work over video?
Yes. EMDR is delivered effectively via telehealth using the same bilateral stimulation protocols adapted for an online format.
Do you work with teenagers?
Yes, I see teens as well as adults, individually or with family involvement where that is useful.
